Which Lock Is Right For My Door?

Entry, Privacy, or Passage

There are three kinds of door lock: Entry, Privacy, and Passage.

Each one serves a different purpose.

Entry locks are typically on your front and back doors. They use a key to open from the outside and a latch on the inside.

Privacy locks are typically on bathroom and office doors. They have a latch on the inside and a slit on the outside or nothing at all.

Passage locks are for general use where locking is not necessary, such as on closet doors.
